Classes

Teachers make a class and share a code. Students join with a free account, and the teacher sees every student’s homework results in one place.

Are you a teacher?

Make a class in a minute and share its code. Set homework for the class and see every student’s results in one table, with their recent practice. Free for one class of up to 30 students.

Make a class, give your students the join code, and set homework for the whole class from the homework page. Everything your students hand in while signed in lands in one table on the class page, next to how much they have practised this week.

What a Class Gives You

A homework link on its own tells you who handed in one set. A class tells you how each student is doing over weeks: who keeps up, whose scores are slipping, and who has stopped practising altogether. That is the information you need before a parents’ evening or a report, and it usually lives in a spreadsheet you fill in by hand.

Here it fills itself in. The homework comes from our CEFR question banks, so you do not write questions either: pick grammar, vocabulary, reading or error correction, a level from A1 to C2, and the number of questions.

How It Works

  1. Make a class. Give it a name and, if you like, a level. You get a six-character code and a link. The code never uses 0, O, 1, I or L, so it can be read out in class.
  2. Students join. They open the link or type the code, sign in with a free account and join. Before joining they see exactly what you will be able to see.
  3. Set homework for the class. On the class page, press Set homework for this class. The homework form opens with your class already chosen.
  4. Watch the results arrive. Each student’s best try at each homework appears in the class table as soon as they hand it in.

The Class Table

ColumnWhat it shows
HW 1, HW 2…The student’s best score on each homework set. ✗ means the set is owed and not handed in; a dot means it is not due yet.
DoneHow many of the class’s homework sets the student has handed in.
AverageTheir average score across the homework they have done.
XP, 7 daysHow much they have practised on English Finders this week, in tools, games and lessons as well as homework.
Last activeWhen they last practised anything on the site.

A homework set counts as owed once it closes, or three days after you set it if it has no closing date. Students can try homework again while it is open, and the table keeps their best try.

Free and Teacher Plan

With a free account you can run one class of up to 30 students, with the class table, the free homework allowance (3 open homework sets, 40 answers each) and all the printable makers. The Teacher plan is for teachers with more than one group:

  • as many classes as you need, up to 150 students in total, for one price;
  • a list of students who may need help: two or more missing homework sets, an average under 50%, or no practice for two weeks;
  • a CSV download of the whole class table;
  • AI marking of writing homework, with corrections and feedback for each student, and the final say yours (300 answers a month);
  • unlimited homework sets and answers;
  • everything in English Finders Pro for yourself.

Students never pay anything to join a class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do my students need an account?

Yes, a free one. That is how their homework reaches your class table and how you can see their practice. Students who only need to hand in a single piece of homework can still use a homework link without an account.

What can I see about my students?

Their name, their results on homework set for your class, their XP for the last seven days and when they last practised. You cannot see their email address, their other answers or anything in their own notebook. Students are told this before they join and can leave a class at any time.

Can I have more than one class?

A free account has one class. The Teacher plan gives you as many as you need, up to 150 students across all of them. A student in two of your classes counts once.

What happens if a student hands in homework without signing in?

Their answer is saved and you can see it on the homework’s own results page, but it cannot be matched to anyone in your class. Homework set for a class reminds students to sign in before they start.

Can I delete a class?

Yes. You can archive a class to hide it, or delete it. Deleting removes the list of students, but the homework and every answer stay in your homework list.

Can AI mark my students’ writing?

Yes, on the Teacher plan. Set writing homework for the class and AI marks each answer out of 20 for task, organisation, vocabulary and grammar, usually within a minute. Students see corrections and a next step; you see the same feedback and can change any mark or add a comment. With a free account you mark writing yourself.
