Word Practice
Three quick questions on this word. Nothing is recorded — practise it as often as you like.
Word Practice turns any word into a quick three-question quiz — no daily reset, no login, and no record kept, so you can run it as many times as you like. Pick a level if you want to stay in a specific CEFR band, or leave it on Any Level and let the game choose a word for you.
What Is Word Practice?
Word Practice is a short vocabulary quiz on English Finders: a three-question round built around a single word, drawing on its definition, part of speech, example sentence, and stored synonyms. On its own page, no word is set for you in advance — choose a CEFR level (A1 through C2) or leave it on Any Level, and the game picks a word and builds a round from whatever that word’s dictionary entry actually supports. Nothing is saved between rounds, so you can retake a level’s quiz as often as you’d like.
How to Play Word Practice
- Choose a level. Pick a CEFR band from the Level menu, or leave it on Any Level for a random word.
- Answer three questions. Each is multiple choice, drawn from that word’s definition, example sentence, part of speech, and synonyms — whichever the word’s entry supports.
- Check your progress. The header tracks which question you’re on, your score, and your streak.
- Move to the next question. Press Next after answering to continue.
- Start again anytime. Once the round ends, start a fresh one whenever you like — nothing about the last round is saved.
Word Practice Rules
- Every round is three questions, built around one word.
- Questions are multiple choice with four options each.
- Wrong-answer options are drawn from words at the same CEFR level as the target word where possible, so distractors are a fair test rather than an obvious guess.
- Question types include meaning, fill-in-the-blank using a real example sentence, synonym matching, part of speech, and matching a definition back to its word — whichever the word’s own dictionary entry supports.
- Nothing is timed, and nothing is recorded — play the same level as many times as you want.
- No account or sign-up is required.
Benefits of Playing Word Practice
Because each round mixes several question types around one word — its meaning, how it’s used in a sentence, its synonyms, and its part of speech — you end up testing the word from more than one angle instead of just memorizing a definition. Picking a CEFR level lets you stay inside a specific difficulty band, ideal for learners studying toward a set proficiency level. And because rounds aren’t tracked or scored beyond a single session, it’s a low-pressure way to check what you actually know.
Tips for Solving Word Practice
- Read the whole sentence in a fill-in-the-blank question before picking an option — context often rules out two answers immediately.
- If a synonym question stumps you, think about how the word is normally used rather than a strict dictionary definition.
- Stick to one CEFR level for a few rounds in a row to notice which question types trip you up at that difficulty.
- Use the “Any level” setting occasionally to spot-check words outside your usual study band.
- Part-of-speech questions only cover noun, verb, adjective, and adverb — if you’re unsure, rule out the ones that clearly don’t fit grammatically.
- Since nothing is saved, don’t hesitate to replay a level right after finishing it while the words are still fresh.
Who Can Play Word Practice?
Word Practice suits English learners who want quick, low-stakes review of vocabulary at a specific CEFR level, as well as teachers looking for a short warm-up drill with no setup. Since a fresh round can be started immediately, it also works well as a between-lesson filler or a way to double-check a word just looked up in the English Finders dictionary.
