Reading Quiz

Read the short passage, then answer the question about it. Filter by level to practise reading at your own stage.

Reading Quiz gives you a short passage and one question about it — pick the answer the passage actually supports, and it shows you the exact sentence that proves it.

What Is Reading Quiz?

Reading Quiz is a short-passage comprehension tool from English Finders’ Practice tools. Each round shows a few sentences on an everyday topic, followed by one multiple-choice question with four options. Unlike Vocabulary Quiz and Spelling Quiz, which draw from English Finders’ large shared dictionary, Reading Quiz uses a small, hand-written bank of passages and questions — thirty-six in total, six at each CEFR level from A1 to C2 — covering twenty everyday topics such as daily life, travel, work, health, technology, and history.

How to Play Reading Quiz

  • Choose a CEFR level from the dropdown, or leave it on “Any level” to mix levels.
  • Read the short passage shown at the top.
  • Read the question underneath it.
  • Tap or click the answer you think the passage supports.
  • The quiz tells you straight away if you were right, and shows the exact sentence from the passage that proves the answer.
  • Keep going until you reach the end of the ten-question session, then start a new one if you like.

Reading Quiz Rules

  • Each session is ten questions long.
  • Every question has one short passage, one question, and exactly four answer options.
  • You get one answer per question — once you pick, that round is scored and locked in.
  • After you answer, Reading Quiz shows an explanation quoting the sentence from the passage that supports the correct answer.
  • The passage bank is small and hand-written rather than pulled from a dictionary, so once you’ve seen every passage at a level, the quiz starts repeating them rather than ending the session early.
  • Reading Quiz is free to play, with no account or sign-up required.

Benefits of Playing Reading Quiz

Reading comprehension asks for more than recognising a word — it asks whether you can follow what a short piece of text actually says and draw the right conclusion from it. Because Reading Quiz always shows you the supporting sentence afterward, you can see exactly where you went right or wrong instead of just getting a score. With passages spanning all six CEFR levels and twenty everyday topics, it also works as a gentle way to pick up new vocabulary and phrasing in context, rather than as an isolated word list.

Tips for Reading Quiz

  • Read the whole passage before looking at the question — the answer usually depends on one specific sentence, not the general topic.
  • If two options both sound plausible, look for the sentence in the passage that rules one of them out.
  • Start with a CEFR level close to your own stage so the passage length and vocabulary match what you can comfortably read.
  • Use the explanation after each question, even when you got it right, to check that your reasoning matched the passage.
  • Try mixing levels once you’re comfortable at your own stage, since the bank repeats topics like travel, work, and technology across levels with increasing difficulty.

Who Can Play Reading Quiz?

Reading Quiz suits any English learner who wants quick, focused comprehension practice rather than a long reading exercise. Because every answer comes with a quoted explanation, it works well for self-study without a teacher on hand, and its spread across all six CEFR levels makes it useful both for beginners reading their first short passages and advanced learners preparing for exams like IELTS or Cambridge that test reading comprehension directly.
