Homework

Homework

Teachers set English homework in a minute and share a link or a code. Students answer online, with no account, and get their score straight away.

Are you a teacher?

Sign in with a free account to set homework: choose grammar, vocabulary, reading or error correction, a CEFR level and up to 20 questions. You get a link and a code to share, and see every student’s score and answers.

Set a short piece of English homework, share one link or a six-letter code, and see who has handed it in, with every answer already marked. Your students don’t need accounts, and the whole thing is free.

How It Works for Teachers

  1. Sign in with a free English Finders account and open this page.
  2. Choose the type of questions, the CEFR level, how many questions (5 to 20) and, if you like, a topic such as “Present perfect” or “Articles”.
  3. Press Create homework. You get a code like K7P2QM and a link to share.
  4. Post the link in your class group, or write the code on the board. Codes never use 0, O, 1, I or L, so nobody mixes them up.
  5. Open Results whenever you like to see who has handed in and how they did.

What Students Do

Students open the link, or come to this page and type the code. They write their name, answer the questions on one page and hand it in. Their score appears straight away. Unless you turn it off, they also see the right answer and a short explanation for every question they missed, so the homework teaches as well as tests.

Students who are signed in to a free English Finders account get a little more: each right answer earns XP, and every mistake goes into their Mistakes notebook in My Account, where they can review it later.

Types of Homework

TypeWhat students doTopics
GrammarChoose the word or phrase that fills the gapTenses, articles, prepositions, conditionals, modals and more
VocabularyChoose the meaning of a word at their levelAny words at the chosen level
ReadingRead a short text and answer a question about itEveryday life, work, travel, science and more
Error correctionFind the part of a sentence that is wrongThe same grammar topics as above

Every type comes at all six CEFR levels, from A1 to C2. The questions are copied into your homework when you create it, so the set your class sees never changes, even if our question banks grow.

What You See in the Results

  • Each student’s name, score and the time they handed in.
  • A row of marks for every student, so you can see at a glance which questions they got wrong.
  • For each question, the share of the class that got it right and the wrong answer chosen most often, which shows you what to reteach.
  • A CSV download that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.

You can close homework when it’s due, reopen it for latecomers, or set a closing date so it shuts by itself. Deleting homework removes the answers too.

Free Account and Plans

A free account can have 3 open homework sets at a time, with up to 40 answers each, which covers most classes. Close an old set to open a new one. Pro members have no limits.

Tips for Setting Homework

  • Keep it short. Ten questions is enough for most homework, and students are more likely to finish it.
  • Use a topic you have just taught, then look at the question-by-question results before the next lesson.
  • Set the level your students are working at, not the one they are aiming for. If you aren’t sure, they can take the free English Level Test first.
  • Leave the answers switched on for practice homework, and switch them off for a quick test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Setting homework needs a free English Finders account, and students need no account at all. A free account can have 3 open homework sets with up to 40 answers each; Pro members have no limits.

Do my students need to sign up?

No. They only type their name. Students who do have a free account and are signed in also earn XP for right answers, and their mistakes are saved for them to review.

Can students see the answers?

By default, yes: after handing in, they see their score, the right answers and short explanations. You can switch this off when you create the homework, and they will only see which answers were right or wrong.

Can I choose the grammar topic?

Yes. For grammar and error correction you can pick a topic such as the present perfect, articles or prepositions. Leave it on “Any topic” for a mixed review.

Who can see the results?

Only you, the teacher who set the homework. Students see their own result only, and the results page is never shown in search engines.
