Last August, Maya went to a music with her best friend, Jess. It was a hot, sunny weekend, and there were thousands of people in the field. The music was loud, the food was delicious, and Maya took hundreds of photos.

On Saturday night, their favourite band played on the main . Maya and Jess danced in the for two hours. When the concert finished, Maya put her hand in her pocket. Her phone wasn’t there.

“Oh no,” she said. “My phone! My train ticket is on it, and all my photos!”

They looked everywhere. They looked on the ground, near the food tents and at the information desk. A man there wrote down her name. “A lot of phones get lost here,” he said. “Sorry.”

Maya felt terrible. That night, in the tent, she couldn’t sleep. She was about the ticket, but she was more worried about the photos. There were photos of her grandmother’s birthday on that phone, and she didn’t have copies.

The next morning, Jess’s phone rang. It was a from an unknown number: “Hi! I found a phone near the main stage. The screen says ‘If found, call Jess’ with this number. Is it your friend’s?”

Maya couldn’t believe it. One hour later, they met the at the coffee tent. She was an older woman called Gwen. She was at the festival with her teenage son.

“I lost my phone at a festival once,” Gwen said, and she smiled. “Nobody gave it back.”

Maya wanted to give her some money, but Gwen said no. So Maya bought her a coffee and a big piece of chocolate cake.

On the train home, Maya changed the message on her phone screen. Now it says: “If found, please call Jess. people are the best people.”
