You don’t feel well. How do you explain your symptoms clearly to a doctor or pharmacist in English?
Notice
“I have a headache and a sore throat.” “My stomach hurts.” “I feel dizzy.” “I’ve had a fever since yesterday.”
Rule
Use I have a… for most symptoms (a headache, a cold, a fever, a sore throat). Use I feel… for sensations (dizzy, sick, tired, better). Use my ___ hurts for pain in a specific body part (my stomach hurts, my back hurts). Doctors often reply with advice using should or must: “You should rest” or “You must take this medicine twice a day.”
