“I wake up early and get ready quickly. I usually catch the bus at 8am. At work, I check my emails and then start my tasks. I finish work around 5pm and relax at home in the evening.”

Rule

Describing a routine well combines present simple (for habits), sequencing words (first, then, after that), phrasal verbs (get up, look after, turn on/off), and adverbs of manner (quickly, carefully). Combining all four makes your description sound natural, not like a list.

Practice

  1. Combine: “I wake up.” + “quick” Answer: I wake up quickly.
  2. Use a phrasal verb: “I ______ my computer when I arrive at work.” (switch on) Answer: turn on
  3. Add a sequencing word: “___, I have breakfast.” Answer: First
  4. Use an adverb: “She finishes her tasks ___.” (with care) Answer: carefully
  5. Write one sentence about your evening routine using a phrasal verb. Answer: (open)
