  • Example: It is essential that the committee review the proposal carefully. Were the budget to be approved, the project could begin immediately. It is recommended that further consultation be sought before any final decision is made.

Rule

Your task: Write 5–7 sentences making a formal recommendation (to a company, school, or organisation). Use at least three structures from this module: the formal subjunctive, “were…to”, and wish/if only/it’s time.

  1. Planning line: what recommendation will you make?
    Answer: Personal answer.
  2. Draft one sentence using “it is essential that”.
    Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘It is essential that the deadline be extended.’
