A fast recap of your strongest B2 tools before we build on them.
Notice
- If I hadn’t studied English, I wouldn’t be reading this now. (mixed conditional)
- The report must be finished by Friday, and it needs to be reviewed twice. (passive with modal + passive infinitive)
- She admitted forgetting the appointment, but insisted it wasn’t her fault. (advanced reporting)
Rule
Quick review: mixed conditionals join two different time periods (past cause, present result, or vice versa). The full passive range includes modals, infinitives, gerunds, and perfect/continuous forms. Advanced reporting verbs (admit, deny, insist, suggest) each take specific grammar patterns.
Practice
- Complete: ‘If I _____ (know) about the meeting, I would have attended.’
Answer: had known - Rewrite in the passive: ‘They should finish the project by June.’
Answer: The project should be finished by June. - Report: ‘I broke the vase,’ she said. (admit)
Answer: She admitted breaking the vase.
