Rule

This review lesson revisits the five areas from Modules 6–10: ellipsis and substitution (Module 6), collocations/idioms (Module 7), advanced linking and cohesion (Module 8), persuasive and argumentative writing (Module 9), and register/tone shifting (Module 10).

Practice

  1. Agree using ellipsis: ‘I don’t like spicy food.’
    Answer: Neither do I. / Nor do I.
  2. Complete the idiom: ‘The company hit the ground _____.’
    Answer: running
  3. Combine formally: ‘Sales rose. Costs fell.’
    Answer: Sales rose, whereas costs fell.
  4. Soften: ‘This is wrong.’
    Answer: I noticed something here that might need a second look.
