Notice

  • Example: The policy was announced without warning, which frustrated many businesses. To be fair, the government did offer a grace period. That said, the damage to public trust, which is hard to quantify, may prove more lasting.

Rule

Your task: Write 5–7 sentences giving a nuanced opinion on a topic of your choice. Use at least one sentence relative clause (commenting on a whole idea) and two comment clauses (to be fair, that said, mind you, etc.).

Practice

  1. Planning line: what topic will you give a nuanced opinion on?
    Answer: Personal answer.
  2. Draft one sentence using “which” to comment on a whole idea.
    Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘The decision was rushed, which concerns me.’
