Notice

  • Never have I seen such dedication. (inversion)
  • It is essential that the report be submitted on time. (subjunctive)
  • The team conducted a thorough analysis of the data. (nominalisation)
  • They must have been negotiating for hours. (modal perfect continuous)
  • The decision, which surprised everyone, was announced yesterday. (sentence relative clause)

Rule

This review lesson revisits the five grammar areas from Modules 1–5: inversion for emphasis (Module 1), advanced hypothetical/subjunctive (Module 2), nominalisation and formal register (Module 3), advanced modality (Module 4), and complex relative/comment clauses (Module 5).

Practice

  1. Rewrite with inversion: ‘I have rarely seen such commitment.’
    Answer: Rarely have I seen such commitment.
  2. Complete: ‘It is vital that she _____ (be) informed.’
    Answer: be
  3. Nominalise: ‘They decided to expand the business.’
    Answer: They made a decision to expand the business.
  4. Complete: ‘He _____ (must / work) all night — he looks exhausted.’
    Answer: must have been working
