Can-Do Task: A Formal Analytical Paragraph
Task: write a formal analytical paragraph using advanced linking words for cohesion.
Notice
- Example: Given that remote work has become widespread, many companies have revised their policies. Some organisations have embraced it fully, whereas others remain cautious. Notwithstanding these differences, most agree that flexibility will remain valuable, provided that productivity is maintained.
Rule
Your task: Write 5–7 sentences analysing a topic of your choice in a formal style. Use at least four linking expressions from this module (whereas, while, given that, provided that, in view of, notwithstanding).
Practice
- Planning line: what topic will you analyse?
Answer: Personal answer. - Draft one sentence using “whereas” or “given that”.
Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘Given that costs are rising, efficiency matters more than ever.’
