  1. 1) Is “life is a journey” a metaphor or a simile?
    Answer: A metaphor — it directly equates life with a journey, without “like” or “as.”
  2. 2) “Oh brilliant, the printer’s broken again” (said with frustration) is an example of:
    Answer: Sarcasm — saying the opposite of what is meant, with a critical/mocking tone.
  3. 3) Identify the device: “We came, we saw, we conquered.”
    Answer: Parallelism combined with the rule of three (a tricolon).
  4. 4) Write a rhetorical question about climate change.
    Answer: Example: “How much longer can we afford to wait?”
  5. 5) “It’s just a scratch” (said about a badly dented car) is an example of:
    Answer: Understatement — presenting something serious as minor, often for dry effect.
