Can-Do Task: introduce yourself the way a C2 speaker would — precisely, naturally, and with the right register for the room.

Notice

  • Task: imagine you are introducing yourself in three different settings — a job interview, a casual party, and a formal academic conference.
  • For each setting, write 2–3 sentences that introduce who you are and what you do, matching the register to the audience.

Rule

Self-check your work against this checklist: Did you vary your vocabulary (not the same three sentences reused)? Did the job-interview version sound professional but not stiff? Did the party version sound relaxed and natural? Did the academic version use more formal, precise language?

Practice

  1. Model answer — job interview: what tone should it strike?
    Answer: Confident and professional, e.g. “I’m a data analyst with about six years’ experience, mostly in the retail sector.”
  2. Model answer — casual party: what tone should it strike?
    Answer: Relaxed and brief, e.g. “Oh, I mostly crunch numbers for a living — sounds boring, but I actually love it.”
  3. Model answer — academic conference: what tone should it strike?
    Answer: Formal and precise, e.g. “I am a researcher specialising in consumer behaviour analytics, currently affiliated with…”
