Can-Do Task: A Decision That Shaped My Present
Task: think of one real decision from your past and explain how it shaped your life today.
Notice
- Example: If I hadn’t moved to this city, I wouldn’t have met my best friends.
- Example: If I had chosen a different degree, I would be working in a completely different field now.
Rule
Your task: Write 5–7 sentences about a real decision (or something that happened to you) using at least three mixed conditional sentences. Explain the past cause and its effect on your life now.
Structure to follow: 1) State the decision/event. 2) Use a mixed conditional to show the alternative. 3) Reflect on how you feel about it today.
Practice
- Planning line: What real past decision will you write about?
Answer: Personal answer — e.g. choosing a job, a move, a relationship, a course of study. - Draft one mixed conditional sentence about it now.
Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘If I hadn’t taken that job, I wouldn’t be living here now.’
