Writing About Advantages and Disadvantages

One major advantage of remote work is flexibility; however, it can also lead to isolation.

Notice

  • One major advantage of remote work is flexibility.
  • On the other hand, a significant drawback is the risk of isolation.
  • A further benefit is the reduction in commuting time.
  • However, one downside is the difficulty of separating work and home life.

Rule

Advantages/disadvantages essays use set phrases to introduce each point: one advantage/benefit of X is…, a further/another benefit is…, on the other hand, a drawback/downside is…, however, a disadvantage of X is… Group your ideas clearly: advantages first, then disadvantages (or point-by-point), and balance both sides fairly.

  2. Complete: “_____ the other hand, a drawback is the lack of face-to-face interaction.”
    Answer: On
  3. Write one advantage sentence about social media.
    Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘One advantage of social media is that it helps people stay connected.’
  4. Write one disadvantage sentence about social media.
    Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘However, a significant drawback is the risk of spreading misinformation.’
