Passive Perfect and Passive Continuous
The road is being repaired this month, and the documents have already been signed.
Notice
- The documents have already been signed.
- The new policy had been announced before I joined the company.
- The bridge is being repaired this month.
- The application was being processed when I called.
Rule
Passive perfect: has/have/had been + past participle — an action completed before now or before another past point.
Passive continuous: is/am/are/was/were being + past participle — an action in progress at a point in time.
Together with the simple and modal passive forms from earlier lessons, this completes the full passive range you need at B2.
Practice
- Complete: ‘By the time I arrived, the meeting _____ (already / start).’
Answer: had already been started - Complete: ‘The new bridge _____ (build) at the moment.’
Answer: is being built - Complete: ‘All the invitations _____ (send) by yesterday evening.’
Answer: had been sent - Identify the form: ‘The building is being renovated.’
Answer: Passive continuous (present)
