Can-Do Task: Explaining Purpose, Reason and Result
Task: write about a decision you made, explaining your purpose, the reason behind it, and the result.
Notice
- Example: I moved to a new city in order to start a new job. Due to the high cost of living, I had to find a smaller apartment. The change was such a big adjustment that it took me months to feel settled.
Rule
Your task: Write 5–7 sentences about a real decision. Use at least one purpose clause (so that / in order to), one reason expression (due to / owing to / because of), and one result clause (so…that / such…that).
Practice
- Planning line: what decision will you write about?
Answer: Personal answer — e.g. moving, changing jobs, starting a course. - Draft one sentence using “so that”.
Answer: Personal answer, e.g. ‘I saved money so that I could travel.’
