There Is / There Are

Hook: “There is a lamp on the table. There are two chairs in the kitchen.” This is how English says what exists somewhere.

Notice: “There is a sofa in the living room.” “There are three bedrooms in my house.” “Is there a garden?” “Are there any pets?”
