Hook: Now put it all together: the questions people actually ask when they meet you.

Notice: “What’s your name?” “How old are you?” “Where are you from?” “What’s your phone number?” “Are you a student?”

The rule

Most personal-info questions use be (What’s your name? = What is your name?) or question word + be + subject (How old are you?). “What’s” = “What is.”

Practice

  1. Match 5 questions to 5 correct answers.
  2. “___ old are you?” (Answer: How)
  3. “What’s your name?” = “What ___ your name?” (Answer: is)
  4. Write 4 questions you would ask someone you just met.
