Hook

Now you know time, days, the present simple and frequency words. Put them together and you can describe your whole week, the way people do when they plan to meet: “On Tuesdays I usually finish work at six, but on Fridays I finish at four.”

Notice

  • On Mondays, I usually start work at 8 am.
  • I often go to the gym on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
  • At the weekend, I sometimes visit my grandparents.
  • My sister has English classes twice a week.
  • I never work on Sundays.

What does the -s in on Mondays tell you?

Rule

Building a schedule sentence: (time phrase) + subject + (frequency word) + verb + (more information).

On Fridays, I usually play football after work.

  • on Monday = one Monday; on Mondays = every Monday.
  • every day / week / morning · once / twice / three times a week
  • in the morning / afternoon / evening · at night · at the weekend
  • Sequence words: first, then, after that, finally — First I have breakfast, then I go to work.
  • Talking about your week: What do you do on Saturdays? · When is your English class?

Watch Out

  • ✗ In Monday I work. → ✓ On Monday(s) I work.
  • ✗ I go to the gym two times in week. → ✓ I go to the gym twice a week.
  • ✗ Every mondays → ✓ every Monday (no -s after every)
