Present Simple – Routines

Hook: “I wake up at seven. She works in a bank. They study English.” This is the tense you use for things that happen regularly — your daily routine.

Notice: “I get up at 7am.” “He gets up at 6am.” “We eat breakfast at 8.” “She eats breakfast at 7:30.”

The rule

Use the present simple for habits and routines. Add -s to the verb for he/she/it: I work → he works, I go → she goes, I study → he studies.

Negative: I/you/we/they don’t + verb; he/she/it doesn’t + verb. Question: Do you…? Does he…?

  3. ___ he ___ (speak) English? (Answer: Does… speak)
  4. They ___ (study) every evening. (Answer: study)
