Hook

If something hurts, you need to say where. At the doctor’s, at the pharmacy or when a friend asks “Are you OK?”, body words are the first thing you need, before you can describe any problem.

Notice

  • My head hurts.
  • She has long hair and brown eyes.
  • I broke my arm when I was ten.
  • He has a pain in his back.
  • My feet are tired after the walk.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.

Which two body words have an unusual plural?

  • Irregular plurals: foot → feet, tooth → teeth.
  • Use my / your / his / her with body parts, not the: My head hurts.
  • hurt: My leg hurts. My eyes hurt. (the body part is the subject)

Watch Out

  • ✗ The head hurts me. → ✓ My head hurts.
  • ✗ two foots / two tooths → ✓ two feet / two teeth
  • ✗ My eyes hurts. → ✓ My eyes hurt. (plural subject, no -s)
  • ✗ I have pain in the stomach. → ✓ I have a pain in my stomach. / I have a stomachache.
