“What’s the weather like today?” is one of the most common small-talk questions in English. Let’s learn how to answer it.

Notice

Weather words: sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, snowy, hot, cold, warm, cool.

Seasons: spring, summer, autumn/fall, winter.

Examples:

  • It’s sunny today.
  • It’s very cold in winter.
  • What’s the weather like today? — It’s rainy and cold.
  • I love summer because it’s warm and sunny.

Rule

We use It’s + weather adjective to talk about weather: It’s sunny. It’s cold. (“It” doesn’t refer to anything specific — it’s a fixed pattern for weather.)
