Hook
“What’s the weather like today?” is one of the most common small-talk questions in English. Let’s learn how to answer it.
Notice
Weather words: sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, snowy, hot, cold, warm, cool.
Seasons: spring, summer, autumn/fall, winter.
Examples:
- It’s sunny today.
- It’s very cold in winter.
- What’s the weather like today? — It’s rainy and cold.
- I love summer because it’s warm and sunny.
Rule
We use It’s + weather adjective to talk about weather: It’s sunny. It’s cold. (“It” doesn’t refer to anything specific — it’s a fixed pattern for weather.)
Ask: What’s the weather like?
Practice
- Complete: ___ sunny today. (Answer: It’s)
- Name the 4 seasons. (Answer: spring, summer, autumn/fall, winter)
- Ask about the weather. (Answer: What’s the weather like today?)
- Choose the correct season for “very cold, snow”: (Answer: winter)
- Write a sentence describing today’s weather. (Answer: e.g. It’s cloudy and cool today.)
