If something hurts, how do you say which part of your body it is? Let’s learn the basic body vocabulary first.

Notice

Look at these body parts:

  • head, hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth
  • neck, shoulder, arm, hand, finger
  • chest, back, stomach
  • leg, knee, foot, feet (plural of foot), toe

Rule

Most body parts are countable and follow regular plural rules: one eye, two eyes; one hand, two hands.

Irregular plural: foot → feet (not foots), tooth → teeth (not tooths).

We usually say “my/your/his/her” + body part (not “the”): My head hurts. (NOT the head hurts)

  4. Label: the part you use to hear (Answer: ears)
