How are you feeling today? Happy, tired, worried? Let’s learn simple words to describe emotions.

Notice

Common feelings:

  • happy, sad, angry, tired, excited
  • scared/afraid, worried, bored, surprised, nervous

Examples:

  • I feel happy today.
  • She looks tired.
  • Why are you sad?
  • He’s nervous about the test.

Rule

Use I feel / I am + feeling word to describe emotions: I feel tired. I am happy.

Use look/seem + feeling word to describe how someone appears: You look worried. She seems excited.

Ask: How do you feel? or What’s wrong? or Are you OK?

Practice

  1. Complete: I ___ (feel) very tired today. (Answer: feel)
  2. Complete: She ___ (look) worried. (Answer: looks)
  3. Choose the correct feeling word for: you got a great gift (Answer: excited/happy)
  4. Choose the correct feeling word for: you have a big test tomorrow (Answer: nervous/worried)
  5. Ask how someone feels. (Answer: How do you feel? / Are you OK?)
