What are you wearing today? Let’s learn clothing and color words to describe people.

Notice

Clothes: a shirt, a T-shirt, trousers/pants, a dress, a skirt, shoes, a jacket, a hat, socks.

Colors: red, blue, green, yellow, black, white, brown, pink, purple, orange, grey.

Example sentences:

  • She is wearing a red dress.
  • He’s wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
  • I like your green shoes.

Rule

Use wear / is wearing to talk about clothes.

Word order: color + clothing item — a red shirt, blue shoes (NOT a shirt red).

Some clothes are always plural: trousers, jeans, shoes, socks — use “are”: These shoes are nice.

Practice

  1. Put in order: dress / red / a (Answer: a red dress)
  2. Complete: He is ___ a black jacket. (Answer: wearing)
  3. Choose is/are: These trousers ___ new. (Answer: are)
  4. Name 3 colors. (Answer: e.g. red, blue, green)
  5. Describe what you’re wearing today in one sentence. (Answer: e.g. I’m wearing a blue shirt and black trousers.)
