Days, Months & Dates

Hook: Making plans, birthdays, appointments — you need days, months, and dates for almost everything.

Notice: “Today is Monday.” “My birthday is in June.” “The meeting is on the 5th of May.”

The rule

Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Dates use ordinal numbers: 1st (first), 2nd (second), 3rd (third), 4th (fourth)… We say dates as “the 5th of May” or “May 5th.” We use in with months and years (in June, in 2024), on with days and dates (on Monday, on the 5th).
