Welcome to Your Course

Welcome!

In this course you will go from knowing almost no English to introducing yourself, talking about your day, ordering food, asking for directions and writing a simple message, all in English. That is the official CEFR A1 level, and every lesson in this course is built to get you there.

What You Will Be Able to Do

At the end of A1, you can:

  • say hello, introduce yourself and ask other people simple questions about themselves;
  • talk about your family, your home, your daily routine and your free time;
  • understand short, simple texts like signs, menus, notices and messages;
  • order food, ask for prices and ask for directions in town;
  • talk about what is happening now and what you did last weekend;
  • write a postcard, a short message and fill in a form with your details.

How the Course Works

  • There are 11 modules after this welcome module, then a final assessment. Each module takes one real situation (meeting people, shopping, going to the doctor) and gives you the words and grammar you need for it.
  • Every module ends with a short quiz (10 questions, pass mark 70%) and a worksheet you can print or complete online.
  • Each module also has a Can-Do Task: a short piece of real speaking or writing that proves you can use what you learned.
  • You earn XP and badges as you complete lessons and pass quizzes. You can see your XP and streak in My Account.

How Every Lesson Works

  1. Hook: a real situation where you need today’s English.
  2. Notice: a few example sentences. Look for the pattern before you read the rule.
  3. Rule: the grammar or vocabulary, explained in plain English.
  4. Watch Out: the mistakes learners make most often.
  5. Practice: short exercises. The answers are hidden under Show the answers, so try first, then check.
  6. Your Turn: say or write something true about your own life.
  7. Connect: a free practice tool or game that uses the same words.

A Simple Study Plan

  • Study 15–20 minutes a day. A little every day works better than a lot once a week.
  • One module a week takes about 12 weeks.
  • Say the example sentences out loud. Speaking helps you remember.
  • Go back to any lesson as many times as you like. There is no need to rush.
